1. Introduction :
(i) Rajasthan State Sports Council is a registered organization under the Rajasthan Organization Registration Act, 1958, which is the supreme organization for the development of sports in the state under the control of the Youth Affairs and Sports Department. After its establishment, the Sports Council has played an important role in the development of sports in the state in the last 66 years.
(ii) Players are honored with “Maharana Pratap Award” for notable achievements at the national and international level by the State Sports Council. Maharana Pratap Award is being awarded since the year 1982-83.Till the year 2017-18, 170 players of Rajasthan have been honored with Maharana Pratap Award. Players selected in Maharana Pratap Award will get Rs. He is honored with a cash amount of Rs 5 lakh, a brass statue of Maharana Pratap, a blazer with tie and a citation.
(iii) The Sports Council also honors such Sports Coaches with “Vishishtha Puraskar”, who groom and make capable players who bring glory to the state at the national and international level. This award is being given since the year 1985-86.Till the year 2017-18, this award has been given to 40 sports coaches. In Guru Vashishtha Award, trainers get Rs. He is honored with a cash amount of Rs 5 lakh, a brass statue of Guru Vashishtha, a blazer with tie and a citation.
(iv) Rajasthan State Sports Council deserves credit for providing a new direction to the development of sports in India. For the first time in the country, the Sports Council established the tradition of organizing residential sports training programs for selected players of the state, which was appreciated and emulated at the national level. The Council started the first sports training camp in the hill station Mount Abu in 1959.
(v) Sports Council organizes separate residential training camps during summer vacations to discover and hone the talents of tribal areas. Tribal state competitions are also organized.
2. Formation of Sports Council :
(i) The Patron of Rajasthan State Sports Council is the Governor of the state. The Chief Minister of the state is also the Deputy Patron of the Council. The Chairman of the Council is the chief executive. Apart from this, the council consists of Vice President, Treasurer and more than 12 members nominated by the state government. Whereas 6 officers are its ex-officio members. The first Chairman of the Council was Shri V.G. It was Kanetkar. From December 18, 2023, Shri Naresh Kumar Thakral, Government Secretary, Youth Affairs and Sports Department is holding the post of President of Rajasthan State Sports Council.
3. Administrative System :
(i) For the conduct of sports activities and execution of administrative work in the state, 483 posts of various cadres have been created, in which there are a total of 235 posts of officer cadre, subordinate cadre, ministerial cadre and assistant cadre including the Secretary of the Council, out of which 103 posts are filled and 132 posts are vacant. To provide free sports training in the state, 248 posts of sports trainers are sanctioned, out of which currently 72 sports trainers are doing training work and 176 posts are vacant.
(ii) District Sports Training Center offices are functioning in all 33 districts of the state to promote sports and provide regular training. In these offices, there is a sports officer/in-charge of the council, junior clerk and in the districts depending on the prevalent sports, coaches are posted as per requirement and availability. Watchmen and games boys are also employed to maintain the offices and grounds.
(iii) The District Sports Officer, with the help of his subordinate employees and trainers, organizes various sports competitions as well as provides intensive training to the promising players of the district.
